Texas Company, obviously dislike nothing more than to lose their time in discussing demands unsupported by just and reasonable explanations, least of all do people in their position like to be told: these are our terms, you can take it or leave it.
As to this, the Texas people say that, apart from having no desire for a change wherever and whenever their agents do their duty, it is in the power of the British administration of your Colony that the Germans do not come back. Therefore, as they added, why fear them and why should you not give them, the Texas Company, the same sat- isfaction as did your predecessore, the Germans. At any rate, why should we (the Texaco) for reasons like these be expected to depart from our regular fom of contract.
I think the Texas Company will telegraph you to now make up your mind one way or the other, and I can only add that the attitude of your London firm has made the worst possible impression upon then.

I have just received a letter from the Texas people, of yea- terday's date, and enclose a copy, together with a copy of its enclosure, their letter of the 12th inst. to the Colonial Office. You will note
the spitit of dissatisfaction in both letters, and you know that the language of their letters is ordinarily extremely equable and polite.
